Literature Live Presents TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD 11/7-26

Literature-Live-Presents-TO-KILL-A-MOCKINGBIRD-20010101

Bay Street Theatre's Literature Live presentation of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD will be live on stage in a professional production November 7 - 26. The production is directed by Murphy Davis and is geared toward students that read the novel as part of their curriculum in school. The local and regional school and group performances take place during the week. The public can attend if there are seats available on the day of the production. Special performances will be presented for the public on November 11, 12, 18, 25 and 26 at 7 pm.

"Each year we choose a piece of literature that is in the curriculum of most of the schools in the area and bring it to life on stage," says Murphy Davis, Artistic Director at Bay Street Theatre. "We keep the prices at $10 for students and teachers so that it is affordable for schools and offers students the opportunity to experience the impact of live theatre." The adult tickets are $20.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD is based on the novel by Harper Lee that was published in 1960. The novel won the Pulitzer Prize and became a classic of modern American Literature. The plot and characters are loosely based on actual observations made by the author as a child pertaining to an event that occurred near her hometown in 1936. The novel was later made into an Oscar winning film in 1962. The character of Atticus Finch has served as a moral hero for many readers and the book itself is one of the most widely read books dealing with race in America.

The cast for the production includes many local actors. The latest cast list includes: Shonnese C.L. Coleman from NYC (Calpurnia), Lily Spellman from Hampton Bays (Scout), Susan Galardi from Sag Harbor (Miss Maudie), Keith Francis of Patchogue (Judge Taylor, Mr Cunningham, Boo Radley), Seth Hendricks of Southampton (Heck Tate), Joanna Howard of Westhampton (Mayella Ewell), Joe Pallister of Sag Harbor (Bob Ewell), Myles Stokowsky of Sag Harbor (Jem), Hudson Galardi-Troy of Sag Harbor (Dill), Ken Foreman of NYC (Atticus Finch), McKinley Belcher III of NYC (Tom Robinson), and Scott Thomas Hinson of Southampton (Mr. Gilmer).

The cost for students is $10; $20 for adults. To book groups, call the Development Office at 631-725-0818. To buy tickets to the public performances, call the Box Office at 631-725-9500 or buy them online at www.baystreet.org..
