Bay Street Theatre Announces Murphy Davis as February Camp Leader

Bay-Street-Theatre-Announces-Murphy-Davis-as-February-Camp-Leader-20010101

Bay Street Theatre has announced that Murphy Davis, Artistic Director at Bay Street Theatre, will lead the KIDS SCHOOL VACATION THEATRE CAMP February 20-24 from 9 am – 3 pm. Back by popular demand, each week long session will include classes and games incorporating every aspect of theatre: acting, singing, performance, dance & more. Students will write and perform in their own original performance.

For the last two years Bay Street’s Theatre Camp received rave reviews from both students and parents alike. One 8 year old participant said, “"It's fun! The best part was the staff, they were all really nice. And, the plays we do are really fun!"

Murphy Davis is a former actor who trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, HB Studios and Ensemble Studio Theatre. He was founder and Artistic Director of the Stonehill Theatre Project from 1987-1992 where he developed and produced new plays both regionally and in NYC. From 1992-2000 he was the Producer at Bay Street Theatre, as well as Educational Director, where he developed and implemented the Educational Program. As a director he developed and staged shows with various artists including, Anne Jackson and Eli Wallach, Charles Bush, Denny Dillon, Debra Barsha, Julie Halston and Julie Gold, Mary Cleere Haran and Richard Rodney Bennett, which were presented at Bay Street and various venues in NYC. From 2000-2001, along with Julian Schlossberg, he started Artists United, a producing company dedicated to developing new plays for Broadway and Off-Broadway. And in 2000, he joined Manhattan Theatre Club as its Director of Artistic Production. In 2006 he returned to Bay Street Theatre as Artistic Director. Since then, as one of the creators of Bay Street’s Literature Live Educational Program, he has directed THE DIARY OF Anne Frank, THE MIRACLE WORKER and TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, which is presented to schools and the general public.

Theatre Camp is recommended for children ages 8 to 12 years old. The cost for one-week is $375 per child. Students are required to bring a bag lunch and have a willingness to learn. Bay Street will provide the rest, including snacks. Class size is limited and fills up quickly. These camps sold out for the past two years so call Mary Ellen at the Bay Street’s Administrative Office at 631-725-0818 x112 to sign up today.
