BWW Reviews: BroadHollow Theatre's DEATHTRAP - You Just Never Know

BroadHollows-Theatre-Companys-Deathtrap-You-Just-Never-Know-20010101

You simply can not go wrong with Ira Levin's Tony-nominated hit play Deathtrap. BroadHollow Theatre Company's production, running through September 2nd, boasts a wonderful cast that has you jumping in your seat one moment and laughing the next.

Deathtrap is a two-act comedic thriller, essentially a play within a play, with many twists and turns. The great cast is led by Frank Dispigno as accomplished playwright Sidney Bruhl. Sidney conspires with Clifford Anderson (Evan Donnellan), an up and coming playwright and former student of Sidney's, to get rid of Sidney's wife, Mya (Tara Palen).

Also in the cast was Sherry Mandery as Helga ten Dorp, the gypsy psychic who lives next door to the Bruhl's. She pops in a few times and comes within a whisper of figuring out what happened and significantly moves the story along. Rounding out the cast was Martin Edmond as Porter Milgrim, the Bruhl's attorney. The great chemistry between the five actors was apparent as the entire production flowed very well.

Everything happens solely in the Bruhl household. Bob Butterly did a fantastic job with the set, especially with Sidney's collection of antique war weapons and props from his shows that were on display. The high green walls with dark trimming, large wooden desks, and big leather couch/chair set made the stage very masculine looking.

Deathtrap has become a staple amongst the community theatre scene. BayWay's version affords the opportunity to see this hit show as it hasn't been on Broadway in thirty years.

Deathtrap is presented by the BroadHollow Theatre Company running through September 2nd at the BayWay in East Islip, Long Island. This will also be presented at the Elmont location beginning September 15th. Created by Ira Levin, Directed by MarIan Waller, Set Design by Bob Butterly, Lighting Design by Meghan Santelli, Stage Manager is Kevin Kelly.
